Makeup Before and After: Finding the Perfect Foundation

When it comes to foundation, it’s always best to find one with the right amount of coverage for your skin. If you like a little more, get one that covers well but really blend it in using a damp Beauty Blender until it becomes invisible on the skin. Redness and discoloration should be covered, but you should still be able to see your skin under there. Case in point: in both pics, you can see Emily’s glowing skin but it’s just more evened out after. You don’t need a lot of makeup to achieve this, just the right makeup. I’m faithful to Koh Gen Do, which I carry in my kit but can also be used daily. MAKE UP FOR EVER also has foundations with invisible coverage as do Armani, Chanel, and Dior. Notice I didn’t mention M.A.C? Yes their formulas cover, but in a severe sort of way. Like if you were depressed and didn’t want to see the sun, you’d paint your windows with M.A.C foundation to prevent all signs of daylight from shining through. Seriously, it’s just too much.

Dab little dots of foundation around the center of your face and blend outward so you cover the areas with the most discoloration, use a concealer for extra coverage where you need it, and ask for a sample before you make a purchase. Sephora, Nordstrom, and most department stores have sample cups for this very reason (ULTA does not sample FYI) and are happy to let you try something before having to bring it back which sucks for both you and them.
